Held on the vibrant Lagos Lagoon, the event showcased Nigeria’s rising prominence in sustainable marine innovation, drawing thousands of spectators to a thrilling display of green technology.
The E1 Series featured nine celebrity-backed teams racing zero-emission RaceBird hydrofoils in a high-stakes format of heats, race-offs, and a final. Drogba, present at the event, emphasized its significance: “Bringing E1 to Africa is about showcasing our potential and driving change through sport.” The team’s third-place finish added 32 points to their tally, keeping them competitive in the season standings. Environmental initiatives, including planting thousands of mangroves along the lagoon, underscored their commitment to marine conservation.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu lauded the event as a milestone for Nigeria’s clean energy ambitions, boosting tourism and local businesses. The Grand Prix highlighted opportunities in electric mobility, with sponsors eyeing Nigeria’s dynamic market.
