Hon. Dr. Ahmed Adamu Saba, Member of the House of Representatives representing Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency of Kwara State, has issued a formal demand for a public apology and retraction from Sahara Reporters following a defamatory article published on September 18, 2025. The lawmaker, through his legal counsel, Mohammed Ndayako SAN & Co, has given the media outlet a seven-day ultimatum to comply or face legal action. In a letter dated September 22, 2025, signed by S.S. Jipan, Esq., and addressed to the Managing Director of Sahara Reporters, Hon. Saba’s legal team described the publication as “scandalous and defamatory,” accusing the outlet of failing to verify the allegations or seek the lawmaker’s response prior to publication. The article in question, titled *”House of Reps Member Adamu Saba Accused of Defrauding Constituent of N5 Million in Fake Job Appointment,”* falsely claimed that Hon. Saba defrauded one of his legislative aides, Kabir Ahmed, of N5 million in a fraudulent job appointment scheme.
The counsel’s letter refutes these claims, providing evidence that Kabir Ahmed is a legitimate legislative aide appointed by the National Assembly Service Commission on January 22, 2025. Supporting documents, including Ahmed’s appointment letter, staff identification card, and salary pay slip, were attached to the letter as Annexures A, B, and C, respectively. The letter further clarifies that Ahmed enjoyed the benefits and privileges of his role, including accompanying Hon. Saba on legislative oversight functions. The legal team emphasized that the appointment of legislative aides is at the discretion of the lawmaker and contingent upon the aide’s conduct and character. They condemned Sahara Reporters for failing to verify public records or consult the lawmaker, describing the publication as a “calculated attempt” to tarnish Hon. Saba’s hard-earned reputation in Nigeria and beyond. The letter demands an immediate retraction of the defamatory publication and a public apology to be published within seven days in at least two widely circulated national dailies—one with significant readership in Abuja, FCT, and Northern Nigeria, and another in Southern Nigeria. Failure to comply, the letter warns, will result in the pursuit of all available legal remedies. “Take further notice that you are required to retract the defamatory publication and tender a public apology to our client within seven clear days from the receipt of this letter or the date of posting by courier service. A stitch in time saves nine,” the letter concluded. Hon. Saba’s legal team has made it clear that they are prepared to protect the lawmaker’s reputation through all necessary legal means if Sahara Reporters fails to meet the stipulated demands.
