Mele Kyari, former Group Chief Executive of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has refuted baseless claims of his detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), labeling them “clear mischief” aimed at misleading the public. The allegations, circulated by an online newspaper, prompted widespread concern among Kyari’s family, friends, and stakeholders.
In a statement, Kyari reflected on his 34-year career with the NNPC and NNPCL, including 17 years in management and nearly six as Group Chief Executive under Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “I served with the fear of God, knowing I must account before man and Allah,” he said, affirming his readiness to transparently account for his stewardship.
Currently on a well-deserved rest following the dissolution of NNPCL’s board, Kyari warned that disinformation risks eroding investor confidence and Nigeria’s global standing. He urged the media to verify reports diligently.
Expressing gratitude to supporters, Kyari assured stakeholders of his openness to lawful inquiries, underscoring his commitment to Nigeria’s progress.
